2012 Ferris Wheel Estate Pinot Noir

2012 Ferris Wheel Estate Pinot Noir

The dormant season was colder than normal. Then the growing season was slightly warmer than normal for the whole year, with no real heat spikes. Despite this we totaled only 1866 Growing Degree Days during the season. The fall rains held off and we brought in very good looking fruit on October 19 at 20.9 Brix, 3.20pH and 9.3g/L TA.  We used a portion of the fruit for our white pinot noir and destemmed the rest to bins for red wine.  This deeply hued vintage shows a dark ruby garnet color, something that we only see from our site in longer warmer years.

The aromas exhibit dark cherry and blackberry fruit aromas with graham and barrel toast and spice notes. The wine is very lively in the mouth with good dark fruits, blueberries, black berries and some plums. The tannins are apparent, but well balanced with the acidity and overall fruit profile.  The texture is quite full. The finish goes on and on.

This is a pinot that will stand up well with our favorite grilled leg of lamb with olive oil, garlic and rosemary.
