2012 Yamhill-Carlton Pinot Noir

2012 Yamhill-Carlton Pinot Noir

This wine is made from Dijon 114 clone sourced from John and Linda Hirschy who farm pinot noir just south of the town of Carlton in Oregon’s Yamhill County, heart of the Willamette Valley. Harvest occurred October 11, in this long, temperate, very favorable vintage season. The color is a lovely garnet red, with some purple tinges around the edge.  The aromas conjure up cherry cola, with some damp forest floor notes, with an evident hint of warm toast. There are some perfumed rose scents with candied orange rinds.  The flavors are complex, with lovely raspberry and blue berry fruits complimented by some pie and baking spices, nutmeg and cinnamon. The mouth feel is quite voluptuous and tempered by some nice coating acids, keeping this wine very lively, with a long lush finish.

This wine cries out for gamey meats or fowl. Think pan seared duck breast with a deglazed currant, butter and wine reduction.
