We source our syrah from Fox Hill Vineyard, 20 miles south of Elkton, and at 900’ elevation a relatively cool site for this variety. However, 2015 was the third year in a row that broke heat records in Oregon. Across the state the season was long, dry, warm and had higher than average heat accumulations. This has resulted in a bigger wine than we have seen in the past from this site.
This wine has a pretty, deep purple hue, good name for a rock band, but ah, I date myself. The aromas rush at you with a heady deep, dark blackberry perfume mixed with an intoxicating blend of white and black pepper spice. The flavors highlight the above while mixing in some tangy cherry and red currant notes. The wine is velvety and supple in the mouth, with nice acidity complimenting a very pleasant tannin grip. The mouthfeel carries on and on.
This wine cries out for BBQ, with spicy rubs and tangy sauces used with lamb or beef.
