2015 Fleur de Lis White Pinot Noir

2015 Fleur de Lis White Pinot Noir

25.00

We started this white pinot project in 2010, the coolest vintage we had experienced in Elkton, using fruit from our own Ferris Wheel Estate Vineyard.  2015 was the warmest year on record in Oregon, continuing a 3 year trend of record warmest years.  With our white pinot noir harvested October 1, we bring the fruit into the winery early morning while still quite cold and gently whole cluster press the grapes to tank for settling.  The juice picks up very little color with this treatment.  We ferment our white pinot noir in old “neutral” barrels.  We like all the barrel contributes to the maturation of the wine, but we do not want any oak flavors.  The wine is aged sur lie and we stir the lees at every topping.  This technique helps to broaden the mouthfeel of the wine and give it more texture.

The wine has a pretty faint bronzish hue.  The aroma has white cherries, green apples and lemon pound cake with a backdrop of fragrant wild herbs.  The flavors have a nice tart green apple and citrus complexity with caramel appearing in the background.  The texture is round and full, balanced by the nice fresh acidity.    The finish is quite long, lingering and satisfying.

This is a great seafood or shellfish wine.
