2015 Miss Tilly Gamay, Umpqua Valley

2015 Miss Tilly Gamay, Umpqua Valley

2015 was the warmest year on record in Oregon, the third year in a row to break that record.  This gamay was the first lot into the winery in 2015, harvested on September 8 - the earliest we have ever seen fruit come through the door.  We decided that these grapes presented the perfect opportunity to bottle a red with a hint of sweetness, something that our customers had been asking for.

What we now have is a delightful wine with a beautiful pale ruby garnet hue that has pronounced aromatics of black pepper spiciness overlaying a core of red plummy and blackberry fruit.  The palate tingles with red plums, red hots, and raspberry licorice.  The finish is a very pleasing interplay between the spice fruit, very nice acidity, and the touch of sweetness that gives roundness and fullness.  As we were test marketing the first vintage of the 2011 version of this wine to our cellar door customers, one remarked that it's the perfect "patio pounder".  I couldn't have said it better, so that's what we'll happily live with.  Cute story with the name too, so check out the back label.

Drink anytime.  We served it recently with spiced pecans and strawberries marinated in balsamic vinegar and black pepper.
